Protect Yourself from Errors and Fraud – Check Your Account Statement!
You are protected from errors like having both the check and the ACH item debited to your account, from having the incorrect amount debited to your account, or from having an ACH item hit your account without having received prior notice that this may happen. Just as a stop payment made in error, you can ask your financial institution to return the ACH item for up to 60 days after the date the item was debited to your account. Your financial institution will ask you to sign a written statement attesting to the reason you wish to have the item returned, but that is all. It’s as simple as that.
